WordPress 2.8.1 – No More Theme Toolkit
My biggest complaint about upgrading to WordPress 2.8 was why on earth they decided to integrate the Theme Toolkit into the canvas of WordPress.
The Theme Toolkit is a plugin that replaces the standard editor with a “snazzy” editor with the addition of blue and red text to make it easier to see what you’re doing when making amendments to your source code … to be used only if you’re comfortable with coding by the way … just warning you.
It’s something I stopped using over a year ago because in my view, it had a mind of it’s own. When scrolling, it would just freeze up for minutes at a time and it would add quote marks automatically so you had to waste time removing them and it would strike-through added text.
Anyway, I said all of that to say this … in WordPress 2.8.1 the WordPress team have done the right thing and removed it! I’m happy just to have black text – it works!
For those of you who haven’t a clue what I’m talking about, “don’t try this at home!”
For those of you who do know what I’m talking about, before you make any changes to the code, back up the relevant PHP file first. So, if you are making changes to the footer.php file, back it up so you can re-upload it if you really mess up. Another tip from “The Queen,” is to go back to the original theme files and copy and paste from the section that you’ve messed up. I confess this is what I often end up doing since I can’t be bothered to back up the PHP file each time I decide to change the code.
So, if like me, you were getting frustrated with that so called improved editor, it’s time to upgrade to WordPress 2.8.1 and say goodbye to the Theme Toolkit.
Until next time,
